John Nicholls Trading Ltd Environment Policy - April 2022

John Nicholls Trading Ltd is a family run independent building & plumbing merchant with multiple sites in Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Buckinghamshire & Dorset. We recognise that our operations result in emissions into the air & the generation of waste. It is our aim to comply with all relevant environmental legislation, continue to reduce the environmental impact of our business & to operate in an environmentally responsible manner.

In today’s environment, specific responsibility for the company’s actions in several areas must be undertaken. David Simms is responsible for ensuring that this policy is implemented. However, all employees have a responsibility in their departments to ensure that the objectives of the policy are met.

The actions that are currently being undertaken are as follows:

• Our diesel fuelled company cars are being phased out & replaced with PHEV & Self Charging Hybrid vehicles, significantly reducing our c02 emissions.
• Our diesel fuelled FLTs will be replaced with electric powered models at point of renewal.
• All new HGVs are to be Euro 6 compliant & comply to statutory standards in air pollution.
• All our HGV, Commercial vehicle & FLT drivers are fully trained & advised in company working practices.
• We work towards reducing, reusing, or recycling all our wastage from warehouses, yards & offices.
• We have separate waste receptacles for recyclable waste & general waste.
• We have compactors on site to bale our carboard & plastic waste so that it can be transferred to recycling experts.
• We have replaced our plastic carrier bags with paper derived alternatives.
• We work with Biffpack for our packaging compliance.
• We are in the process of upgrading all sites to smart meters.
• We regularly communicate to our sites with good housekeeping reminders, including turning off unnecessary lighting & setting heating timers correctly.
• We work with our suppliers to encourage high environmental standards.
• We work with our suppliers to source goods both ethically & sustainably.

John Nicholls recognises that we have a responsibility to the environment & endeavour to carry out every aspect of our business in ways which are as environmentally friendly as possible.
